5 Daily Routines That Upleveled My Life

In the mornings when I wake up I begin with 5 intentional habits.

  1. Breath.

Usually this takes the form of meditation, whether that be for 4, 9 or 20 minutes (those are the times of my bookmarked meditations). Even tho I’m waking up from slowed down breathing during the night, I want my 1st morning presence to be intentional easing into my day.

  1. Water.

I drink a glass of water 1st thing before I get out of bed to feed and replenish my body after a long night of fasting.

  1. Intention.

I set an intention for the day so my mind has a task to focus on and not become bogged down in the minutia of my day’s to-do list. This could be as simple as “take it easy today” or direct as “surrender to the process, don’t fight against it”.

  1. Stillness.

Do you remember the 5 senses exercise? Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, etc. What I do for this habit is kinda like that. I sit in stillness for a minute to just notice and feel without intention to take in or gather any data.

  1. Light.

Every morning I open my bedroom blinds but before I move away I stand in the light of the day to be present in that fleeting moment as I anchor my being into the gift of a new day.

Even though it may be the dreariest of days when I look outside (I live in the PNW where rainy days are a given) the point of this habit is greet the light of a new day and the space I take up in in.

I started doing these after reading an article written by Dr Laurie Marbus where she outline 5 habits to start your day with. I have come to love implementing them and think of them as my daily reset, a gift to myself.

My 1st thoughts previously, especially in my entrepreneurial days, were about productivity i.e. what’s on my to-do list and I'd jump out of bed rearing to tackle it all. These days I think about me—my physiological, physical and mental state⏤first.

One of the things she wrote was about how habit and healing are intertwined. The last few months life has been taxing but I’ve been trying to find a new way live this one beautiful life of mine despite the challenges.

With that said I wanted to also share below what I like to call an "-Ing List" to close out this post.

My List this week...

Loving - those 5 habits I outlined above instead of picking up my phone I dial into me.

Watching - Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. It’s a K-drama tht I am totally hooked on ams been great for the rest periods I initiate after an activity (yeh, I’m still doing that and it helps to keep the intense symptoms at bay).

Writing - in addition to my regular journaling I’ve also started a daily journal challenge list (@memoriesbymeyers on IG).

Listening : Ok, hear me out on this one. I find it difficult to fall sleep most nights cause my brain refuses to shut off and stop giving me things to mull over, find solutions to, etc. So I’ve found a podcast that’s perfect to help me. It’s called Boring History for Sleep.

Each episode is 3-5 hrs in length. Yup, that long. What I know is true is that I don’t think anyone has heard the ending of any of their podcast episodes because I know I’m fully asleep by then and it has a checkmark next to it in the korjng which means the whole thing was played. 😆

Doing- Complete rearranging of my studiO. it was such a mess I decided to rearrange things. Well, the whole room. So I’ve been recording every time I move things around.

I’ve rearranged my creative space soooo many, many times before and it’s usually a full day thing. This time around it’s taking a bit to finish because…you know why (link below if no clue what I'm talking about 😞).

I'll be uploading a desk top tour of my rearranged studiO soon over on my Youtube channel soon (it's taking a bit to edit all the footage) mee of y’all have asked for a desk top tour but

Alrighty then, that’s the latest update from the land of Grace. See you back in this space next time.

ttfn,

Grace

psst....feel free to let me know what’s happening in your neck of the woods. What’s a currently "-Ing" are you doing these days to lad into your days more introspectively?

(ttfn = ta ta for now)
